Types of breast implants
Silicone gel breast implants
These are the most common type of breast implants that many people prefer, and they have been there for a long period.
This kind of implants is known for their firm look and natural look. Before they are inserted, they are first prefilled according to your size so that they have a natural look once they are inserted.
The advantage of this type of implants is the long term use. Most women can successfully stay with them for 10-15 years before re-evaluating their options. Another advantage is the development of textured silicone gel implants, unlike the smooth ones that feel uncomfortable and move around, textured ones have a more natural feel.
These implants can be shaped into whatever size and shape including round, conical and other shapes depending on different needs.
There is the obvious disadvantage of the silicone gel rupturing and leaking from the scar area. This is very rare, but it is bound to happen at times. The problem can be easily corrected by a qualified plastic surgeon. This is a very rare occurrence that occurs due to negligence during the surgery.
Saline implants
These implants are made with a silicone outer shell but filled with salty water inside. The salty water is sterile and safe for the body, so there are no worries of rupture when using the implants. Unlike silicone gel implants that can be made into different shapes, the saline implants are limited to round shapes.
The best thing with these implants is in the case of a rupture; you don’t have to worry that much because the fluid will be naturally absorbed and excreted by the body.
There is a downside with these implants which is the obvious unnatural feel of the breast. Most women have admitted that silicone implants feel more natural compared to others.
This type of implants can also fold and wrinkle over time, and they have a shorter life expectancy compared to silicone gel implants.
