Education Sessions for Young People
*
*
With prevention such a key aspect of our aims, education is central to the work at Caledonia Youth. We constantly find that appropriate sex education helps young people realise their potential in terms of personal relationships, understanding their sexuality, social integration, gender roles and opportunities in adult life.

We help them make positive and more informed lifestyle choices, improving their self esteem and steering them away from a pathway that can lead to chaotic and often destructive behaviour. We adapt a social model of sexual health that is holistic and encompasses the social, emotional, physical and psychological elements of an individual's life. This forms the basis of our educational service provision.

Bespoke and age-appropriate education sessions are offered to suit the requirements of each group or individual in order to ensure that learning outcomes are appropriate and key objectives are agreed with other agencies. Resources are also adapted for the specific requirements of young people.

Utilising a holistic model of sexual health, our sessions focus on areas covering self-esteem and assertiveness, with particular emphasis on relationships and negotiation skills, as well as contraception, pregnancy and STIs.

Sessions are carried out by staff skilled in the roles of both educator and trainer. In a positive, pro-active and professional manner, they promote the full range of sexual health services available locally from all relevant sources. Information and education are also provided to enable them to make informed choices and develop responsibility for their own sexual behaviour.

Our educational work can be carried out at any suitable venue, although we also have facilities within each of our regional branches. Additionally, individual sessions are provided to young people who approach us for information on an ad-hoc basis and to those who require support on a more focussed one to one basis.

Many young people contact Caledonia Youth for the purpose of investigative study. We provide quality information and resources, which reflect the educational purposes of the request.
