Why
did the service begin initially?
Caledonia Youth has offered a comprehensive sexual health and relationships service for young people in Scotland since 1968. Our organisation has always been unique in its approach to young people, catering specially for their sexual health and relationship needs.
Change arrived in 2001 when we embarked upon expansion into a national organisation, working towards equitable access to services for all young people across Scotland. Based on the work we were doing and the results we had achieved, we received extensive support from the Scottish Executive for the launch of our services across a number of health board regions.
Thanks to our experiences and commitment to young people in our original base of Edinburgh which served the wider Lothian community, we were seen as the ideal partners to develop much needed services around the country.
This was the ideal opportunity for us to re-brand, reflecting our new national ambitions and our mission to improve services for young people. After a great deal of consultation, particularly with young people themselves, our name changed from Brook in Scotland and became Caledonia Youth in October 2001.
The name, Caledonia Youth, reflects the sentiments of our organisation. Male and female symbols have been incorporated within the logo, giving a discreet indication of our work. As young people identify with logos and often abbreviate words, the CY initials have become our organisation’s branding tool. Many young people now know Caledonia Youth simply as CY.
